Why have a nuchal scan privately?

Accuracy:

1. Accuracy and experience are crucial, particularly with a nuchal scan: we have performed many thousands of these scans and quality control and results are both internally and externally audited. No independent staff or junior doctors are involved.
   
2. We will not fail to get the nuchal measurements and will always be able to give you a result.
   
3. Using other features of the baby, such as the nasal bone, also makes the test more accurate than that offered within most NHS departments.
   
4. We only use state of the art ultrasound equipment.

Convenience:

1. We can give you the full result at the time of the scan and can discuss its implications face to face. This is done by asking for the blood tests to be done in advance: we send these to a specialist laboratory in London.
   
2. We have appointments in evenings and Saturday morning as well as in the daytime
   
3. We are based in the John Radcliffe Hospital Fetal Medicine Unit. We can easily refer you straight back into the NHS system if this is required, arranging an NHS appointment with a named consultant to suit you.

Charitable support:

The private service helps financially support our NHS fetal medicine service for women with serious pregnancy problems. Over the years more than £100,000 has been voluntarily ploughed back into the NHS system from private nuchal scanning.
