A fetus can usually be seen from 6 weeks after the last menstrual period, although the pregnancy is best dated from 9 weeks.
Getting the dates correct is crucial to the safety of pregnancy and can prevent unnecessary induction of labour.
This scan is not usually available on the NHS (where dating is assessed at the nuchal scan)
